Simulated Class: What’s in a Name: Latina/o/x Identity and Why Literature and Culture Matter for the Study of Race and E

Tuesday, October 12, 2021
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Eastern Standard Time
Location: Virtual

Description:
Join us for a simulated class from our College of Arts and Sciences. Don't worry--there won't be any tests! Have you ever wondered about why people are using the term Latinx? How does this term differ from other ones you may have heard like Latina, Latino, Latin@, or Hispanic? In this short lecture, Professor David Vázquez will provide a short history of pan-ethnic identity terms like Latina/Latino/Latinx and Chicana/Chicano/Chicanx. The sample lecture will also discuss recent Latinx novels, short stories, and films to demonstrate how literature and culture provide spaces for thinking about social justice. The lecture will run about 30 minutes, with a Q&A to follow. Live captioning of this presentation will be available to those that need it and can be accessed by using the following link: https://link.ai.media/session?plink=AU-OE-KT
Registration period closes Tuesday, October 12, 2021
