Description:
School of International Service - First Year Seminar, Appropriation or Appreciation (SISU-106). This course explores notions of cultural appropriation. Questions examined include whether it is appropriation for white people to wear dreadlocks, whether non-white cultures can appropriate each other, since being transgender is real, can someone be transracial, and who the gatekeepers to appropriation are. The course explores notions of identity and culture in an increasingly polarized world.
